Coyote Hunting Question?
 

You see coyote hunting shows on tv.
They are all out west, where you can see for miles.

So how do you hunt coyotes, like in the East.?
You know, where you can't see over 10 yards or so.
The only way you can see any distance, is from a tree stand.

So have you, or anyone seen any coyote hunting shows, hunting in the East?

Or hunting coyotes, in thick brushy type woods?

I hunt NY and hunt farm fields, gravel pits, cow pastures (empty). I like the biggest fields I can find.

Also im no expert, In florida theres a lot of thick swamps, we set up on the edge of these and call while watching natural funnels and low ground. Just like deer yotes usually walk the easiest path. I wouldnt try from a stand unless i was hunting over bait because of the limited mobility, we move every 20 minutes or so to cover more ground. We rarely ever get a kill on one stand usually the 2nd or 3rd etc..

Hunt the same opening you do when you're deer hunting. Hunt the same fields that the deer come out into at dusk, hunt those farmer's crop fields and hunt the grazing lands; all these areas yotes make a living off of. Find good cover(that's no problem), with a good vantage point, call softly (if you have a motion decoy-it helps), remain motionless and be prepared for them to up in from down wind.

I recently got into this myself.I just set up in areas where I've seen coyotes or their sign and start the dying rabbit routine.In heavy cover 10 or 12 gauge shotguns work well with #4 buck loads.A rifle with low power/wide field scope is good to.No luck yet but hopefully the approaching storms and colder temps will get things rolling.
