Best Coyote/Fox Caliber

Just curious as to what everyone out there uses. I use a .222 Remington and a .223 Remington for hunting during the day. At night I use an Remington 11-87 with 3 1/2 in. Copper Plated BBs.

i use a 12 gauge 3" with a turkey choke with number 4 shot... and a 30-30 for longer shots

okgobbler 12-15-2009 10:15 AM

Mostly .243 and 6mm-06, but I have a 223 and 22-250 too

.204 with 40 gr V-max, if it's windy .243 with 75 gr. V-max.

22-250 with 53gr sierra matchking hollow points, only shot 1 fox with them at 350 yards so of course no exit. Not sure how it will react when shooting them at under 100 yards

22-250 all the way. Fast, sraight, and has the knock down power.... Shells are expensive tho! .223 is a great gun for yotes too.

HellsAngel 12-18-2009 11:51 AM

.223 is fine.....i like both the 22-250 and 223 ..there is no exit wound because the damage is inside. fatality !!! without a doubt

good up to 1000 yards

13pointjomc 12-18-2009 12:38 PM

223 is a good gun for yotes, put the bullet where it counts!

Sheridan 12-18-2009 01:15 PM

1,000 yards; that's a lot of wind to dope with that little pill !?!?

Go get'em BIG GUY !

I like using my 22-250 or my .243

DANTHEHUNTER 12-18-2009 03:15 PM

I use a .22wmr when calling most of the time. But I love my .220 swift.

.243coyote 12-18-2009 04:26 PM

243! 55 grain hornadys... no pelt damage... cant go wrong! I do love the 204 as well!

kyhunter93 12-22-2009 10:39 AM

I also agree!

about the only calibers good for BOTH fox and yote, if your saving hides, is the 17 rem and fireball, and the 22 hornet..fox are tiny little critters...nothin but furballs and have a pretty thin skin on them...the bigger centerfires will almost always make a total mess of them...

In WV, we are very limited at night. It's coyote only and must be no bigger than #4 shot with shotgun or rimfire rifle.
I would like to have a dollar for the coyotes running these hills w/ turkey loads in them. If legal where you are, you can not beat #4 buck 3 1/2in through 12 ga.
