will a marlin mod 60 shoot .22 shorts?
 

i just bought my first 22 for shooting rabbits and plinkin around but the neighbors are complaining about the noise. i saw on the other thread that the cci shorts are pretty quiet , but i was wondering if my model 60 would shoot shorts or just the long rifles. i looked but could not find anything that would tell me. thanks

The Marlin model 60 is a .22 long rifle only. .22 shorts will jam up in it.:(

I' ve ran shorts through my Marlin Mod-99 (marlin 60 action, but minus 6rnds, shorter bbl, and stocked to look like a M-1Carbine/Johnson carbine), it fed just fine, my dad' s Mod-66 (Mod-60 action plus two rounds and a special stock) also fed them well enough last I checked, but it' s been a while now. I' ve not tried either of my dad' s or mine new Mod-60' s, but like I said, the other two are the same action, I' ve actually swaped parts on them just to see if they were really interchangeable. The only real difference in the actions is the main-spring, it' s stronger in the newer ones (or maybe my older ones are just worn out!!), so I can see that they might not feed shorts well, since the recoil might not be enough to fully blow-back the bolt, this has been a problem for me with Remington Sub-sonics in our new 60' s (really quite, but really weak too), they feed well enough, but in a fairly rapid fire string, I' m guaranteed to jam, the only time my marlins EVER do in fact, is with those rounds, and only in fast firing.
