squirrel hunting advice?
 

i was wondering what the best way to hunt squirrels is? I dont have any dogs, i just want to go out in the woods and hunt some squirrels with my little brother.... any advice on the best way to hunt them? :fighting0007:

I like to get in the woods before daylight,i find an oak(white oak preferably)before i go huntin,setup about 20-25 yards away,u should kill a few there.What are u going to hunt um with?

I love squirrel hunting! I've never hunted them with dogs and have never had a problem getting them. Go to an area with lots of oaks sit down and wait. I used to wait until I could hear them barking and sneak up on them. It really hones your still hunting ability. It is a great way to teach kids how to hunt. Have fun!

Go deer hunting! :) I've been seeing so many while deer hunting, I've been considering bringing a .22 with me as well. Seriously, I had about 6-8 of them running around within 10-20 yards of my blind the other day. Just being still and quiet seems to work where I am. That may change when you start shooting though.

I use .22 shorts to limit the report, the squirrels don't spook and hide as much. Full camo is usually better, especially face cover. Limit movement, they have very sharp eyes. If you pick a spot that has plenty of mast all you really have to do is sit with your back against a tree and wait for them to come out, when you take the first one and the rest scatter just wait, they'll come back out if you sit still. I've shot my limit plenty of times that way.

Carry some nickle size rocks in your pocket.
When you come across a squirrel, that goes around to the back side of a tree.
Get beside another tree, then throw a rock past the tree the squirrel is on.
And be still, and watch for the squirrel, to come around to the side you are on.
The rock hitting the ground will make the squirrel think its you, and go around thinking its getting away from you.
Be ready to shoot the squirrel.

I hunt them in any of my deer stands. I can't wait till the squirrel opens again. Any stand I have sat in for deer has had limits of squirrel running around. Plenty of acorns for them, and corn fields around. The mornings are a little better. Nice weather helps to.
