Default Coons?

Hey all, I have a question about coons. What do ya'll do with em? Is it mainly for the skin, or do you eat them as well? I could have taken one today, but I figured the .243 would be a bit rough on her. I intend to take some squirrels during our small game season, but am unsure about coons.

Coons are usually taken for their pelts, however they can be eaten also. Matter of fact they are pretty good eating if properly cared for. The 243 might be a tad heavy for them, especially if they are body shot.l

What does a coon skin bring these days? My first year out of High School I used to ride to work sometimes with a guy who trapped. I seem to remember a coon skin going for $10, but that was long ago.

Our buyer here is telling us $8.00 on top coons, that means you will average $4-$5 on them. Probably be a good year to leave them in the freezer and wait on next year.

Im not really in trapping for the money. Its alot of fun,and keep the critters weeded out.The place im trappin hasnt been trapped in like 20 years,so the critters r over populated!
