I also recommend the Model 60. I' ve had many years of service and many thousands of rounds through it and it has always performed perfectly. As far as a scope goes, I would recommend the Simmons 22 Mag scope. It' s 4X32 and really clear and sharp. I paid around $36 for the scope about 2 years out of Midway and I believe I' ve seen them advertised in Cabelas for about the same price. It also comes with rings. The Tasco scope that came with the Marlin fell apart and wouldn' t hold zero. The next Tasco I put on it did the same thing.

Two days ago I bought a used 60 w/Simmons deerfield 3-9x for $80. Took it straight to the range, with Rem 40g. HP' s it put 5 shots inside a penny at 50yds. Needless to say I am quite happy with my new toy.

While I own a 10-22 , in your case I' d go for the Marlin . You aren' t planning to make any mods , so the added price would be hard to justify .
