.223 pistol

First off Im new to the board so I wanna say hi to everyone. Lately ive been shooting alot of .223 and Ive been kicking around the idea of having a pistol chambered in a .223. I know its kinda crazy but i was thinking it would be single shot break open, or a side x side or over under, cuz the case length. Probably around 12" barrel length.

My question is wat are the regulations or.... I guess the word would be qualifications to chamber this caliber as a pistol so it doesnt have to be a 16" rifle.

many companies already make them! As long as it doesnt have a stock and leaves the manufacture as a pistol, and not a short barreled rifle it is good.

Wat about a scratch built one from the gunsmith? Or does it have to start as a pistol and have the gunsmith modify it?

I'm going to assume it would cost a chunk of change to have one hand made. Why not just look at the Thompson Center Contender? www.tcarms.com/firearms/g2ContenderPistols.php

I am a gunsmith, you Can't ( Can Not ) make a hand gun into a rifle, Or a Rifle into a handgun.
it has to leave the fatory as a handgun, or a rifle.
And it would cost way to much to have one built for you.
You have to have a receiver with a seral #, and you would be better off just getting one allready made. (handgun)

Good Luck.

I believe that you may be wrong. You can make a pistol into a rifle but not the other way without going through the BATF. I have the Contender in a few different calibers and the .223 in a 14" barrel works great. I had a 10" but found I like the longer tubes.

I have a stainless .223 10" bull barrel with sights for a contender I would make you a sweet deal on.
