Need some trapping advice

I've never hunted or trapped any type of predators before but recently we have had an abundance of coyotes on out deer hunting property and they are eating most of the fawns. I figured setting some traps out would be the easiest way to get rid of them but I am afraid of a deer or other animal stepping in the trap. What is the best way to set up traps to make sure that other animals do not get caught in them and what are some tips to make sure that I can catch come coyotes.

I'd recommend shooting them....................

It might even be my favorite animal to hunt, at least it is right now !

i would shoot them but i am not at our property very often so i figured trapping would be the best bet.

You don't want to set traps anywhere that you are not going to check on a frequent basis.

Carry your predator gun with you while you are doing your scouting this year.

Win...Win, except for them yotes !!!

Read some more about trapping. Most likely deer wont be getting into your yote sets but if they should the trap wont hold a deer. The design of their foot allows the trap to slip off of there foot unlike that of a K9 or a cat. You can also be very selective by the bait and lure that you use.

Set snares with deer stops attached. Use an Amberg lock that kills the coyote. Snares are deadly, easy to set, cheap and coyotes don't get smart to them.

May check your regs, in Oklahoma you cannot set a trap and leave it unattended for more than 24 hours. So....if you can't check them that often I would use the 'ol rabbit in distress and lay them down with lead.

Shoot me a PM and I can give you my address to send plane tickets, hotel accomodations, and rental car information to. I'll fly out and take care of your problems.

do a lot of research on the net. i would recomend trapping them. all i use is dirthole sets and scent post with #2 leghold traps. i usually do pretty good. if you have any questions send me a pm. as far as the deer i wouldt worry about them they shouldt get into your traps.
