Thanks for all the advice. The past couple weeks I've been setting traps out overnight when I'm up for the weekend and then I take them back inside when I'm gone. The problem I have been having is that the coyotes eat all of the bait off the trap without tripping the trap. Is there a better place to put the bait to make sure they step in the trap.

Where you have been getting action......................dig a pit (5'X5' is fine).
Put your bait in the pit and cover with twiggs, leaves and light soil. Place your traps at edges of pit, also covered with same (lighter material) and secure well. You want them to dig for the bait and step into one trap, then another .....and another. Always use gloves when working on your set and cover scent if you have it. Good luck ! |
The Dirt Hole Set is hard to beat IMO. The key is having the hole angled and deep enough that the yote has got to work to get the bait. Just lure and red fox urine work well this time of year and early fall, no bait is really needed IMO.
This link describes it well. http://www.wild-about-trapping.com/t...t_hole_set.htm |
