Default Coyote Down!

I went out this morning hoping to shoot a pesky groundhog that had been in my garden. Well not three minutes into my hunt I saw what I thought was a groundhog hunched over next to a tree, I took a shot with the 270, I hit him. I went to fetch him and it was a coyote, my first coyote to be exact.

Wow,
that's pretty scary. You should always be sure of your target. What if it "turned out to be" a deer? Or worse a trespasser in a brown jacket?

I knew it was not a deer due to the size. I also really doubt a deer would be hunched on it's hind quarters.
Also, I know people who have made the same mistake.

I honestly thought it was a groundhog, if I was not sure it was something like a deer or a person. I would have not shot.

I was POSITIVE it was a groundhog at the time. There was no doubt in my mind. But I will admit?I should have waited for it to turn around to be sure. I will not make the mistake again.
