.222 vs. .223

I kind of feel like I'm being too analytical about this. If you compare the ballistics of the .222 Rem to the .223 Rem with a 50 gr. V-Max Boat tail, there is about a 160 fps difference in the muzzle velocity. That difference goes down to about 130 fps out at 200 yards. My question is what does that translate to in terms of hide damage? Are these as close to the same as they seem? Is there a hidden advantage of one over the other? Other than cost and availability of the ammo.
Thank you.

RE: .222 vs. .223

i think the difference in hide damage would be hard to see with these to cartridges.one thing is for sure though, the 223 is a readaly availible cartridge that every gun shop carries at dirt cheap prices.the 222 on the other hand is not a common load any more there for would be more expencive.

If your shooting Remington ammo with the v-max bullets the 223rem cost more than the 222rem. The damage wouldn't be a lot different at least not enough to worry about.

RE: .222 vs. .223

I have used both and did not notice any dif. I kept the .223 and load Rem. 50gr plated HP,s in it and almost never get an exit or any pelt damage on fox and coyote.
