What Animal is this...fox or coyote
 

Caught this on my trail cam in my back yard in Southwestern Minnesota. At first my wife said, we caught a fox on the trail cam. After looking at the picture I am not so sure it is not a small coyote. After asking about 10 fellow hunters and friends, we are about 50/50 on if it is a fox or coyote. What is your opinion? Please explain why you think it is one or the other. Thanks.

thats a fox not sure what kind but its definetly a fox you can tell by the ears and the bushy tail

That my friend is a GRAY FOX..... No Mistaken...

A Red fox would have black legs ...

I agree. The facial features, body structure and bushy tail are all fox-like.

He seems well fed for a harsh winter and his pelt seems to be in very good condition. Do you have a fox farm in the area? Did they lose some of their fox withall the snow? Sometimesthey will get a snow dirft big enough for them to escape over the fence. I was deer hunting years ago when I saw a silver fox. We had a guy about 20 miles away who had some of his fox escape during a snow storm.

Coloration, body proportions, even the posture that the animal is assuming...Pure Grey fox...

In fact, if you look up the term "grey fox" in the dictionary, they'll probably have that picture in there..;)...

I agree with everyone its a fox, not sure if red or gray, but you can tell by the tail its not a yote.
