First post about trapping.... forgive my ignorance...

So you set your traps, check them regularly... you are successful, how do you.... well.... kill what you catch? Say you have some live traps and caught a couple of rabbits, you just shoot them? Or do you let them go for the challenge of another hunt?

I know nothing about trapping, just curious, thanks.

Buckmaster, first you need to check your regulations, things like rabbitts in some places are considered small game and not furbearers so theyre illegal to trap in some states.

Larger critters like coon, coyote andthings like skunksIll use a .22 to dispatch, smaller things like mink and muskrat Ill usually just rap on the head with something, doesnt sound nice but it really takes very little to kill them and its quick.

You can also set up your traps so they kill the animal by using a drowning wire on them or using a conibear thats appropriately sized for what your trapping.
Sometimes you can let stuff go, smaller coons and around here many guys will let red fox loose because theres not a lot of them around. You need to be real carefull doing this, get bit your gonna wind up getting rabies shots if you lose the animal. If youre not sure what your doing dont do it, youll be better off killing them.
