LIVER SPOTS
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about small white spots on rabbit liver??
I trapped a couple of rabbits and while cleaning I noticed a few small white spots on the liver. Have not eaten them yet.. Anyone know what this is?? Thanks in advance.. |
RE: LIVER SPOTS
I remember reading somewhere that spots on the liver indicated the rabbit was sick/unhealthy. And I also remember reading that if you do eat it, you in turn would get pretty sick. If I were you I wouldn't eat it.

I think the disease is called Tularemia. It could also be Cystercercosis.

RE: LIVER SPOTS
i wouldnt reccomend .eating the meat, migrating tapeworm larvae, tyzers desease, and colibacillosis, usually occuring more around pine tree,d areas, something to do with the liver,s HME activity slowing the livers .microsomal system,, softwoods like cedar areas too you can get outbreaks , but in some areas its a seasonal thing.heat humidity hunger also affect the way the rabbitshme activity works

RE: LIVER SPOTS
back to the above(wife had to use the comp)from what i was told, in the winter when the good foods gone the rabbits have to dig up roots etc, now in pine wood forest areas i forget what chemical name/ make up/ bla bla, but something in the pines, slows the bunny,s livers metabolic rate down so it cant cope as well with parasites it wouldnt normally have a problem with in warmer weather, the same thing affects ducks, but in ducks shows as white strands in the muscle tissue, before i was aware of all this information i must admit i ate lots of these critters, both flying and digging, .i used to skin them in the dark after a lamping sesh, so didnt see their innards . It was only after the farmer phoned for me to hit them in the morning when they were at their peskiest on the veg patch, So i had a bit of a rude awakening, there is an easy cure for these infected bunny,s though .speeding up the livers metabolism, .Something that naturally occurs in spring-a change of diet and warmer weather.hope this helps,,,and if it helps i was living off rabbits and ducks all the while ,but do look into the affects this can have on you i never did and its too late now...but that was twenty years ago

RE: LIVER SPOTS
Definitely do NOT eat it. Quite often, the liver is the first internal organ that will show there is something wrong in the body. This is why my parents woulld never order liver. Itcleans the bood, and they did not know how healthy the animal was or whatthe liverlooked like before it was cooked. We had our own beefwhich we butchered ourselves. Dad would always check the liver over very well (ours were always very nice).

RE: LIVER SPOTS
I have only come across this a few times, and don't really know what it is. I still ate the rabbit just not the liver. I'm still alive and healthy so I wouldn't be worried to eat another one under these conditions. But thats my choice.
