RE: coon gun?

Check with your local game laws before you purchase one. I know that in louisiana, you can only have a single shot .22. If the law happens to be the same where you are at, then a gun with a clip won' t do you any good.

Hey smitty, do you have any idea as to how that law came about? That' s rediculous that you can only use a single shot...I have a heck of a time filling a tube with rounds with my gloves off at the truck, let alone if I had to do it at the tree!! Put on some warm gloves and get them all mucky running the creek and then try to handle a .22lr bullet with them for EVERY shot all night? I' d lose a box of shells for every five rounds I' d get off!!

A good coon gun is a New England 22-250.

a .410 or a .22 would be best for coons

LBM .22-250 for coon?? You' ve lost your mind. You definitely don' t need any more than a .22 for coon. It' s not like you' re shooting them 500 yds away. They' re treed. You can take your time. Whew!!!!....22-250 for coon???

Hi Who else;

To tell you the truth about what gun is a good coon gun. What ever .22 that is comfortable to you. If you like the gun, and it shoots accurately that' s the best gun for you. I myself use a .22 High Standard pistol. It' s carried in a holster, and I don' t have to worry about dropping it when walking my dogs out of the woods. Believe me when your carrying 1 or 2 coons and leading out the dogs, It' s a lot less hassle.

Be sure to hit them in the head (unless youre using a shotgun) because if you are using a .22, body shots take a few to anchor the coon, ive hit them 5 times in the body with a .22lr and it ran off, on the other hand when I popped one in the head it fell right down dead;)
