what ever ammo your gun likes best and shoots most accurately. My CZ likes cci mini mag hollow points.I would reccomend a high velocity hollow point for coons they can be tough critters. If you use hollow points for squirrels and rabbits try to limit yourself to head shots so you dont destroy the meat.you can try some of the bulk ammo several makers offer 500 or 550 round boxes for about $15 and some guns shoot them well the remington bulk stuff shoots almost as good in my CZ as the CCI's but my marlin and ruger 10-22 and my single six like the federal,my ruger markII loves sub sonics,22 ammo is cheap and you should not limt yourself to just one kind or brand, you can pick up a box for a few bucks and try it and see if your gun shoots it well.GOOD LUCK!!

they will work fine.....headshots on coon will be important if you wanna put them down....ive shot ALOT of coons...a 22 and a headshot is all it takes...but you put them anywhere else and if they come down they will be very much alive...or they can and will climb and move and get into dens and such....when im running the hounds i take the headshot every time...if its impossible to get a head shot, i crack them in the hind end and get another shell in and crack them in the head when they look or start moving...works every time and rarely does the hind end shot bring them outta the tree so i dont gotta worry about the hounds getting torn up

Yes, a .22 has enough power to kill a rabbit! I've killed bobcats with a single .22 shot to the lungs/heart area.

I squirrel hunt with a Smith & Wesson 22A...4X scope.

This gun loves the Remington Target ammo. $5/100.

CCI Mini Mags....my 10/22 loves them and I couldnt even begin to tell you how many coons Ive knocked out for dogs with them. We put 14 long rifle 22sinto a coon one night. Was cheap ammo. He sucked up some lead then finally came down to whoop some arse before dieing. CCI Mini mags didnt require too many follow ups.

jrbsr...My wife bought it for me a few years back for Christmas. It came with 2 barrels...one 7" one 4". I put a scope on the longer barrel and put up a target. It was damn near hole in hole at 50'. That's not something that every pistol will do.

It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier to clean than the Browning or Ruger .22 pistols.

Winchester Wildcat is good,CCI Mini Mags are excellent. I have a Marlin 39a, a Remington 597, and several Colt revolvers and they all love CCI.

if it takes 14 shots to kill a coon you are not hitting him in any vitals. I have killed large mature hogs with a well placed .22 short. One shot only. So I figure you could kill a coon with any .22 lr that your gun shoots accurately.

Some here seem to have the right idea. The 22 is great for what you want to do. I would recommend that you buy a box of 50/100 high velocity from every manufacturer you can get your hands on, initial cost is a bitch but there is not a 22 ever made that doesn't like some particular brand/type , then do some serious evaluation from a good bench rest (keep records).
When you find a combination "YOUR" gun likes, buy the hell out of it making sure you get the same lot number. This will give you an accuracy edge over those that don't adhere to this procedure.
Personally I would recommend "solids" instead of hollow points for any of the game you mentioned even coon. Hollow points open up to quick and lack penetration to get the job done efficiently as possible. You should always be trying for head shots, not always possible I know but that is what you should be doing.
I think the main point of this is, use solids, go for head shots, but above all go through the regime of finding out what your particular firearm likes.

Good luck and have fun.
