what size connis are you using? if your trappin rats you should be using like a 110 and should be able to set it with one hand. but if not you can use a rope. tie the rope to the top spring and run it thru the bottom and back up and pull. it should compress the spring enough so you can latch the safety

I set my 220's by stepping on the frame to hold it down and then pull up on the spring till it is closed enough to set the latch., Good luck and be careful.

make a tool all you need to do is take a 3/8 metal 6ft long cut it in half, drill hole 1ft in from end on each piece. put bolt in,grind to noches in the ends
like this, you can set 110 to 330 with this.

Do you even have a trapping license? What state you in? Do you know what your allowed to trap and where you allowed to trap? Something tells me you have no idea of the trapping regulations.

You encourage illegal activities for youngsters? Good way to get him started by not knowing the regs or if a license is needed or not. Guess it doesn't matter if it is illegal or not, just let him have fun you say.
He lives in NY lets see what it says?

You need to take a trappers education course before you can purchase a license.

Good way for him to start out. Just let him have fun. You wouldn't mind if he went out shooting deer in your area without a license as long as he is having fun I guess.

I have heard rope is a real easy way to set them.
