Start off with mouth calls, get the Primos Mastering the Art Predator pack($20), they are easy to use. The video will show you what to do and how to do it. It will make the perfect Christmas present.

If you don't want the fur, use it.

.17-.24 caliber range, I would use a centerfire rifle.

Did you hit the two you shot at during deer season? Shot placement on a coyote is a little different than on deer and other game most pursue. This website is an interesting read. http://www.predatormastersforums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=53011853&an=0&am p;page=0#53011853

If you're calling make sure you pay attention to wind direction. A coyote coming into a call usually will attempt to get down wind. Try to have open shooting down wind so you're able to shoot before they hit your sent line. They're one of the most difficult animals to hunt, don't give up because once you have one run into your call you're going to be hooked! Good luck, keep us posted on your first attempts and success!

bowannao3, last year a friend of mine had the same problem. We went in and seat in tree stands and did like we where bow hunting. We sprayed fox urine and coyote urine in the wind as a cover scent and killed a total of 3 dogs in 1 hour. Good hunting.

We hunt mostly in the mornings and some in the afternoons before dark. We place a mojo critter about 10 yards from the stand and spray the urines once in the stand. We then turn the caller on or mouth call once every few mintues. One thing is to be ready bow in hand and if you stand when you shoot then you will need to be standing. We stay on stand about 40 mintues then move on. Yesterday my friend used this set up without a treestand and shot a nice red fox working around a frozen pound. He was going to his stand at around 2:30 pm due to the cold temps and spotted the fox working a hill side. He advised that the fox smelled the air twice and came on in. Spraying the urine in the air is called misting I was told. Good hunint.

i hunt for fur so the the smaller centerfires are my choice...17 rem, 223 rem, 204 ruger, etc. but dont use a rimfire. Johnny Stewarts, Fox Pro, Knight and Hale, Circe are my favorite brands for calls

use mouth calls during the late evening, if you have a light you could use it but make sure you make it red. i would also suggest if you use a .22 get accurate and brain shot

Sportsmans Warehouse has a stevens (savage action)rifle in .223 and 22-250 on sale for like $299. It's a good gun to start out with and at that price you could get a nice scope for it. Here's a link to the gun.
