would a .22 or a shotgun be better?

I like a shotgun for early season when the leaves are on the trees. Shotguns are easier to take running shots, but a little harder to clean the squirrel. This time of year I usually use a rifle and aim for the head.

I prefer a scoped.22 over a shot gun. easy head shots, no damaged meat.
A good way to attract squirrels is to carry a pocket full of approx 3/8 diameter pebbles. Throw them up in the air and let them land on the ground. do this every few minutes from where your stting. It mimicks the sound of a squirrel dropping nuts. works pretty good.
try this technique to call them : http://www.myoutdoortv.com/squirrel/fifty-cent-piece-squirrel-call-video-included.html
