coon trapping
What is a good bait to use for catching coon
|
RE: coon trapping
Something sweet. Some use grape jelly with success. I catch most of mine in Dirthole sets or post sets for fox using fox urine and some type of lure.

Setup:
[ol][*]3 Sardines[*]Lots of peanut butter[*]Grape Jelly[*]a Banana[*]Squeezed juice of an orange for the cirtrus smell[/ol] |

do you mix that together

RE: coon trapping
sardines will work good but you may catch your's or someone else's cat in your trap, and a mad cat is very hard to get out of a trap without getting bit or scratched.I use live traps and use tuna fish or sardines and jelly.Coons have a sweet tooth old donuts or honey buns will work also.GOOD LUCK and hope you dont catch anybody's pets.

RE: coon trapping
personally on my sets I set the trap and as usual sift dirt over it. Then I mound up some dirt by the trap, take my fingers and poke a hole about four inches deep in it. I then take a small piece of paper towel or napkin and drip a few drops of skunk scent on it, and shove it into the hole. then I cover the hole with a few broken up sticks or grass. Curiousity gets em every time.

RE: coon trapping
the last dozen or so that i have caught, i was using dried dog food for bait. justabout the cheapest bait you can find and they love it. Plus, they are used to stealing it out of peoples backyards and dog pens, so they are used to it having human scent associated with it.
