More people are using the griz getters or coon cuffs. They will help to keep you from catching dogs and maybe cats. Lately the # 11 double long spring traps are popular also.

if you are looking for a cheap and affective way to catch coons go with the snares! if u can master them they work great.

#11 double longsprings are hard to beat. snares are more affordable, but more difficult to learn to use. coon cuffs are the best, but they are pricey.

for the average new trapper--go with the #11 DLS.

Bucket set using a 3 gallon square bucket and a 220 connibear. Super easy and very effective

Buckets and connibears. Hands down. If you got domestic animals that you don't want dead,Use DP traps and sets. The connibears don't freeze up is a big+. Make sure your allowed to use them and what size if you are.
11#s are worthless in the winter. They are a water trap more so than anything else. That long arm burried in dirt will slow it down.In winter on frozen ground, you would use more material to bed that trap to keep it from freezing than it's worth doing.

You ever use 160s? They crack hard and I have yet to see a live animal at a bucket set.

I don't use 160's as much as 220's but your right they work just as good. The 220's fit alittlebetter in the buckets I use. I too have never had a live animal at a bucket set.

I love the #11 double long springs for water sets. For land sets, i prefer a well broken-in 1.5 coilspring. Never had much luck with conibears, but that is just me.

I just started trapping this year but I sure like the bucket sets a lot better than the leg hold. Quicker kill and a lot cleaner. I don't have to worry about something stealing my bait either.
