Went out for a bit by myself this morning. It's just too warm to get me jazzed up enough to stay out all day calling. Already 60 degrees out. Hope winter weather shows up soon. Anyway, on the first stand I managed to chum up the only coyote that I saw this morning. The red retired combine in the back ground is where I sit to call this spot. I don't let'em get too close because if I move and bump anything onthe combine, it makes a lot of noise. I sit in the grain hopper of the combine. It gives me the best vantage point of the area.

Horrible day for me yesterday. Started driving out towards that areas that I ususally call from and here comes a plane! Buzzes over the top of the powerlines and I can see a guy hanging out of the door with a shotgun.

I left that area and tried a couple of sets in another part of the county, but didn't see anything. Didn't see squat while driving from area to area either.

Come on cold!!!

Good shooting, Howler.

That reminds me of the story about the 2 guys in WY. that were on a stand calling and had a coyote coming to the call when an airplane showed up on scene and the coyote that was coming to the call got shot by the shotgunner out of the plane. It does kind of suck to have a good calling area only to have the coyotes getting worked over by the plane.

Both my coyotes this weekend were chip shots, even yesterdays was only a little over 100 yards.

I've tagged 3 of my 4 bucks now in South Dakota, one more next week and I will hit the coyotes hard! I've busted 4 since deer season started, but haven't had time to call any. These were just targets of opportunity....haha

This guy thought that he was being called to buy a big screen TV here on Black Friday. Only found a 95 grain bullet waiting for him. Big SOB. Had to have been 40 lbs or so.

Thanksgiving day, I tried to make a stand before church... Had a response, he hung out at about the 250 yd mark, just wanst enought light to make the shot... Black Friday, stand one... wasnt 15 seconds in to the stand, when the nicest furred coyote this year made his final apperance.... bout a 150 yrd shot across the field. Bang, flop... Paws up... Stand Two, about 2 minutes in caught movement aobut 60 yrds in a cornfield, at first I thought coon, then I caught him slipping towards my decoy... got to the 30yrd mark... and bang, the signature spin and squeel... second bang... droped him...
Went out Saturday... against the wifes, ill will.... Stand one... called two that stood with a major highway in the background.... couldnt risk the shot.... Stand Two called a big male out of a big grassy ditch... and get this he topped a hill and stood on the crest... WIth the farmers house just over the hill.... I just didnt want to push that shot either... I am really saftey minded, when it comes to the rifle.. I had just never had that many saftey issues in one day.. I guess that is what I get hunting in Rural Illinois... I cant wait till the first of the year... Moving the family to Idaho...

I will have to put the pictures up at work tommarow... SOrry... To slow of a network here...

after my last entry, I was sitting here staring out the window and the snow was falling... and my wife caught my despair... I usually dont hunt on Sunday because, its family day... Church, breakfast with family, stuff like that.... To my surprise, she says... wow... looks like it would be good out there... I perked up like a kicked dog... What... really... she said go, and good luck, with good luck kiss out the door.... I had time for one stand before dark.... I set up quick and got settled in... I seen some fresh deer tracks in the snow... I usually like to set up where I see deer... Where there is food, I have found coyotes not far behind... I calledmy first series... nothing... then the deer showed up from across the ditch and made a hasty get away across the field...I pay close attention to them... they will tell you what and where things are in the woods... as the deer made there get away.. theykept looking off to thereright as theyran down the old railroad bed... as soon as they were out of sigt, I caught movement about 400 yards across the field... I started to scan down wind... I thought I had a coyote slippin on me... I could see anything... after about 4 minutes I started another series to see if I could entice that furball to show itself... BINGo... it worked.. 400 yrds and closing a coyote came to the decoy like she was on a string... it took only seconds for her to close the distance... at 15 yards, I barked... The Rock River, did the same... she dropped like a rock...
