RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
It got pretty warm, but on stand at about 3 pm, we hadn't been calling for 30 seconds when my friend whispered "he's right here, don't move." Well, before he got out the don't move part, I had already swiveled my head around. The coyote was already standing 50 yards from us, infront of my friend. He slowly lowered his head to put the cross hairs in the coyote, and soon found out that he hadn't chmbered a round. About now, the coyote starts to walk toward us, and my friend begins to slowly chmber a round. About the time that thebolt was going closed, the coyote made us and flipped ends, and one shot got fired, only to kill a cactus. We kept calling, and about 10 minutes later, #2 showed up, and came right infront of me. The shot was about 40 yards, and I gota rare pass through with my 35 gr. berger, but the exit wasn't bad.

On the last stand of the day, it wasn't lookin' good. At about 12 minutes, about ready to throw in the towel and head for the house, I spotted one to my left that was swingin' was wide of us, headin' down wind. Got'em bark stopped and dropped him at approx. 250 yards.Big 'ol male.

RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
On Sat., we were still in real good coyote country, but we only called one coyote all day. She ended up infront of both of us, and I offered the shot to my "host", but he told me to go ahead. About 100 yard shot, but again, I had a complete pass through, and this time, the exit was not fur friendly. It was aggrevating, after doing one stand, we spotted 6 coyotes out inan open pasture flat, and we had no way of getting close enough to call them. We watched them for about an hour, while we ate lunch, hopinf theycome our way, but no such luck.

Nice work there Howler!
I had an aggravating stand the other day, called in 5 coyotes, never got a shot....Darn things came in from a direction they've never come for on top of a big hill, and they could see my pickup parked a 1/2 mile away, closest any of them came was about 300 yards, and I didn't ever take a shot....I figured I'd come back in a few days and have the pickup parked in a better spot this time. |
RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
Nice, Howler laying the smack down on them....
Well I had to put the gun away for the time being... We are Idaho bound tommarow... I will be off the puter for a while till we get everything in order... I hope to make it out there and get settled in, and then settle them cross hairs on some Western Fur.... Mike Pure Predator Custom Calls www.purepredator.com |
RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
Sorry I’ve missed out on several weeks of this contest. It looks like a lot of guys are killing stuff this year- and the scores are higher than ever before! My team of Midwesterners (IL/KY/IN) are in a hole for sure!
I switched computers a while back and didn’t save this websites URL into my “favorites” list but I’ve got it now! Let’s see if we can give Howler a run for his money! Here are some of the critters I’ve called and killed in the last week or so. Here’s what I got for Christmas, a pain to unwrap but a banner day for an Indiana hunter. I was flatout tired of dragging coyotes after 23 hours without sleep! ![]() A real long poke with the 25WSSM on another hunt. ![]() Here are a few Gray Fox from South Texas. Not sure how many predatorswe ended up actually killing that week… but here are some pictures from New Years. ![]() ![]() ![]() 67 Yards witha 10 gauge... ![]() ![]() ![]() Not a bad night. Some of the fox were already taken out of thetruck at this pointbecause they were taxidermy material. ![]() Lastly, some of the coon Howler added to this years contest. I’ve called a ****load of coon this year… killed a few but we usually pass them up when we’re calling coyote, fox or cats. Only did one all-night coon calling mission this season. Fur isn’t worth much this year: but I’ve put a few on stretchers anyway. ![]() ![]() ![]() I’ll score onlythe portion of those animals that I called and killed. 8 Coyote 11 Fox 26 Coon =1,080 Points in a week. Move over Howler. |

JRB, You Da Man......
Holy Crap.... Very Nice... I bow down..... Here is a beer to you.... Nice Pics also... Thanks.. MIke |
RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
And... here........ comes....................Rusty........I mean Jrb..................OK, so I can see that next years rules will have to be changed. Those little kit/swift fox are so dumb/easy to call, that they should be worth the same as a raccoon, don't ya think Jrb?;)
The race for the lead has tightened. It's anybodys game. Nice stack of fur Jrb. Hope the move goes smooth for ya Mike. Hope ya get a chance to call some of these western coyotes before the end of season. Ya know Rammer, not getting a shot at 5 is better than an empty clip with nothing to show for it, don't ask me how I know[8D] |
RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
I won't argue that the SouthWest Greys are easier to call...wouldn't be surprised if I couldoutkill Howler5:1 on coyotes in his turf either!:DI'd almost forgotten what it's like to hunt in a target rich environment with virgin eared predators (Like Howler's backyard!).LOL! What you see in the pics isprobably half of what we've shot and carried to the truck.... and we passed up or missed as many more.
I'm fresh out of vacation days so the rest of my predators will probably come from Indiana this winter. I'd like to get back over to some ground I have in Illinois next month, called 17 coyotes there in one day once, just not sure my schedule will allow that. Next season I expect to visit regions of Texas and New Mexico that hold high volumes ofthose dumb virgin coyotes. Thistime I was specifically targeting cats... with no luck... but I'll go for a body count next time just to even it up with Howler and his handpicked Ateam. [8D] It ain't over yet. |
RE: 08-09 predator score sheet
I'm shake'n in my boots Jrb!! Bring it on!!;)Thing is, out in my backyard, I don't have a road every mile, so a man that wants to kill numbers actually has to walk more than a 1/4 mile from a road. Not uncommon to walk several miles a day, and I'm not convinced that you're man enough to handle that part, let alone, out produce numbers close to 5:1!!:D;)
