Im new to varmint hunting
Im new to varmint hunting.... Im thinking about getting a night light (primos?) for my scope and going up to my property in ny. I have no idea what to do. I need some tips on how getting some coyotes, foxs, or bobcats in and what calls work best at night? Also all i have is a .22, 12 gauge, and a 7mm..... What should I use... 12 gauge bird shot?
Thanks |
RE: Im new to varmint hunting
12 gauge with bird shot will not kill any of the varmits you mention unless you're 5 yards away. You need a #4 buck or BB for load for your 12gauge. I would never recommend shooting a 7mm at night due to safety.

what do you meen due to safety... u meen because its a rifle it can shoot too far into something? if thats the case i should be fine because theres really nothing around and i would probably be shooting into a hill...... what bullet would you reccomend for a 7mm for these animals? how far for #4 buck?
thanks |
RE: Im new to varmint hunting

Well If I was you I'd grt some dead coyote heavey shot in 3.5in. The buck shot is ok, but I think you could reach out there just a little more with the dead coyote shells. It's a 't' shot, and lays them out like nothing I'v seen before. For your 7mm you could go light with a rapid expantion tip and be ok. As far as knowing where your shot will be,,, Just becouse you know where the dogs are, and where they will come from don't mean you know where your shot will be. They will generaly try to get down wind from you, but thats not always the case. It may work perfect, but it may not, just depends on the dog, the wind, the setup, and the way the coyote feels that day.
