A liveanimal from a foot-hold trap? Protective gear aside, I don't feel like being bitten from my stupidity of attempting to learn on my own.Bestowe some knowledge on me.

All animals are not the same. A catch pole will work on most. A pair of cat tongs on the rest.

Really depends on the animal. I have released cats, dogs, possums, and coons from footholds. Different styles for different animals/

With a coon, i would step on its neck or chest with my left foot and pin it down, then use my hands to free it. As for bobcats and coyotes, i will have to defer to others. Neither of either has ever elft my trap alive.

OK. I'll probably invest in a catchpole just to be on the safe side of things. Thanks guys

Use a piece of plywood. Cut a small notch in the middel to fit ofer the animals leg. Then the plywood is in between you and the animal as you free their foot from the trap.
