hey this season i might start trapping again i dont know is there any money in it becd ill only do it if there is a litttle cash involved if there is how much is in it for coons bec thats what ill mostly be trapping for

coon prices are supposed to be up, but really...i dont see how a part time trapper will make enough to justify it...just no way to "trap for money" and make money...tools, traps, lures, etc etc, plus gas, time, and time putting up fur, then driving or shipping the fur to a buyer or auction....just a loosing battle...

and even if you had the traps and trapped in your back yard and didnt have to drive, still alot of time and work invested and you'll run dry pretty quick trapping the same backyard wood lot...

but, if your trapping for enjoyment...id say have a ball. just dont expect to get rich...

never can tell what the fur markets gunna do...and to get good prices you gotta have good quality fur and know how to "put it up" properly from skinning to fleshing and stretching and drying..

Last season I averaged about $12 on around 25 coons and got about $12 for a nice buck mink with a local buyer. That was for green fur. People who dried and stretched their fur and took them to auctions sometimes averaged $20 or better. I don't know what the market will be like this year, but it should be pretty good since harvest was down in some areas last year.

You won't be burning up a lot of money on gas then. I found out this past year (after 30 years) that dried dog food is just as good as anything else for coon bait and is a lot less money. Traps are expensive if you don't already have them, though

coons hereare to be worth $60 this coming season, they were worth 30 last year, and with 240 coons, between hunting andtrapping,my huntingbuddy and I profited about 50 dollars each, the spotlighting ticket didnt help any at all, $300each. After that wejustused the dogs. We went out every night the weather permitted though. Traps have to be checked every day even after nights when the coons didnt run.The gas bill was terrible. This year should be better though, Got a new huntin pickup, a little better on gas.
