Default What yote gun should i buy?

Im still looking to get a yote gun. Right now i have around $300, but i will have a lot more after summers over, and i finish mowing. I am looking for a good gun, in the $400-$500 dollar range, that way i have money left over for a good scope. Caliber doesnt matter that much to me, so long as the gun is a tack driver out to 300+ yards. So what do you think i should do? Thanks.

If you're only looking to shoot 300 yards, Id highly recommend a .223. The ammo is cheap and available everywhere. I recommend a H&R / New England Firearms single shot ($300ish) and go high end with a scope.

I thought about the NEF. I figure, once it comes time close to yote"season", i will head to some gun shops, and check out what they got. My friend bought a Nef .223 for $250, with a scope. I dont want one with a scope, because im going to buy my own scope. Another question. at 300yds. will 16x be enough magnifacation to see coyotes?

16x is pleanty but I'd go with a leupold vx-2 with a maximum power around 10x
Any other variable scope would probably do fine though.

.22-250 Rem, .220 Swift, .243 Win.

4.5-14x leupold vx-iii

14x is plenty out to wherever, unless I was going to be doing 300-600yds exclusively and off the bench maybe then I'd consider more scope...

but for an all around, 4.5-14 is about as high as I'd ever go.

You could pick up a Stevens 200 in .223 for around $300 and then put a better quality scope on it. That would make a nice rig.

My thoughts exactly, though I would go for the 22-250. The Stevens are really getting a good rep for accuracy.

I will look for a stevens as well. My local walmart has a Center Point 4-16x45 scope i like, and its like $70. I think it will top of my rig nicely.

X2. I have had two model 12 Savage acutrigger guns in a 22-250 and they are one great shooting gun. spend the extra money and not get a stevens model get the model with the acutrigger....worth every penny. Most the time you can get brand new acutrigger gunswith a scope for $450
