It don"t take much to take a quik look to see scat in a area, or ask people if they hear dogs at night. Even give a howl and listen for a possible answer

Do a quick look for sign. Look for tracks and scat. If there is fresh snow finding tracks and telling their age is all the easier. Yotes are pretty much everywhere. If there is a food source and cover, chances are there are yotes nearby. Whether or not you can call them in will depend on your set up and calling ability, and how much calling pressure the area has recieved. Coyotes can be pretty smart, and will learn not to come to most game calls after a few near death experiences. The time of year can make a difference also, whether they are breeding, current food supply, or if the young dumb new pups are out and about. But like most hunting, success is equal parts hard work, luck, skill, and time spent. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

yesterday while turkey hunting (no luck), I heard a ambluance off in the background. The coyotes started howling along. About 5-8 of them off in a group of hardwoods in the middle of a cut over. Post turkey season, I'll set up on them

I had the same thing happen to me while turkey hunting this year. I heard a siren, and all of a sudden the yotes really started howling. They were real close too, I'd say within 100 yards, and it sounded like there were quite a few of them too. I saw a small hand held siren locator call in one of my magazines that was pretty reasonable, it might be worth checking one out. Good Hunting .... SHOTARYE
