22.lr for coyotes
would a 22.lr kill a coyote? i got pictures of three yotes 75 yards from my house. wanted to kill one.

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
Yes it will, but at 75 yards you are really streching it. Do you have someting bigger? They are tough and will tote a 22 round off in a hurry and never flintch.

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
yes u could kill a coyote at 75 yard but u would need to be using 60 Grain bullets

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
I would never attempt to try to kill a coyote with a 22lr! If you missplace your bullet even just a little, that coyote will run off to die a slow death. Use something bigger as in a 204 ruger and up in caliber.

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
so you think if i get a ruger 10/22 or a marlin model 60 i could pretty easily kill a coyote using 60 grain bullets???

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
Accuracy wise, with the right 22 you can make the 75 yard shot given your wind is not too bad. The problemis the bullet will not have enough knock down to kill the coyote consistantly.

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
all right ill just use a .22 for squirrel and stuff

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
ive used a 22lr. on coyotes and never had much of a problem, i always keep my shots between 50-75 yards, im shooting a high velocity hollow point bullets, really with any animal you intend to harvest shot placement is always a big deal. by the way since im in ohio 22lr is all your allowed to use on public land, on private i heard you can use anything, but check with the game warden.

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
well having semi-auto is better just in a case a follow up shot. i aim for the neck but have hit em behind the shoulder, those dogs are tough though, so shot placement is the key really for any caliber your using.a lot of these guys hunt out west,we dont have the oppertunity to shoot 200+ yards for which those higher calibers are needed. depending on the reason for hunting the yotes, use your shotgun or muzzleloader. i know we gotta get them close in ohio especially where you live. i would use Remingtons high velocity hollowpoints i think they are called venoms or something. they have a flater trajectory. kinda like your 220, 22-250.etc calibers, good luck

RE: 22.lr for coyotes
didn't know there was a 60gr .22lr bullet. i think your averge 40gr high vol bullet would work in the lungs. not a fast as a centerfire but it'd work.
