newbie! help !!

Just wanted to say hello. I'm new to the site and wanted to get my feet wet! I've started coyote hunting, and thought I could get some good advice from some of the veterans out there.

Hello ! I'm shooting a Sako Finlight in .280 Reminton. I'm wanting to work up some loads for coyotes, and in anticipation of a future elk hunt I want to reload for that also.

RE: newbie! help !!

I guess I should have answered better ! I've been using my AR15 Bushmaster in .223 for coyotes and bobcats (the only proper caliber I have at this time for predators). I've taken only two dogs, but am quickly learning from some of my mistakes. I just want to download .280 Reminton ammunition for coyotes, as soon as I get time.

The AR15 is a preety good varmit gun already, may just be better going with that. There are alot of guys shooting the .223 rounds with alot of good sucsees.
just dont try getting out past 200-250yds.

The 223 is going to be easy on the hides, but if your not hunting for hides, shoot them with the .280 fully loaded and see what happens! Dont shoot the cats with it though, they are worth too much $$$. Learn to blow a call good and have a great time.

Thanks Yodeldog. I'll just be darn if .223 ammo or components aren't getting hard to find, and expensive when you do! But I do like the .223. I was just wanting to try to "download" some .280 rounds to see how well it does.

Thanks okiegunnut. I bought two calls, both are lohman circi's, (I think I got the name right). Ones a variable tone, and the other is a long distance call. I'm learning ... by my mistakes !!

Hey Yodel, you buy a .280 Remington andI'll load a few rounds for you too, so you can see what it does to a nogood chicken eatin yote ! I can see you folks really have a good time in here. Thanks

RE: newbie! help !!

Thanks, but I think I"ll stick with the 204. Thats half the fun, makin sure you hitem good. with that .280 I"m sure you could ham a dog and still thow it in the back of the truck. You ham one with the 204 and they will spin like a top, but at least you get another shot...

Illinois?

Hi Yodeldog ! I see your from N. Illinois, where at? I'm originally from LaSalle Il. / about 100 miles WSW of Chicago /HR. drive north from Peoria. My folks place borders interstate 80 on the back side. I never got a chance to hunt coyotes in Illinois, or turkeys, they just were not around when I lived there. They have moved in to the area now though. I think if I ever get a chance to download for my .280 I can really get them zinging for these dogs demise! Take it easy!
