RE: YOUR LONGEST 1 SHOT KILL

this I did because it was a coyote.I would never try it on a big game like deer.I have to much respect for them.
my longest on deer would be 250yards.

my wife and I were in the hunt club, looking for some dogs that were gone.I saw a deer down a small road,so I stopped and backed up.while looking at the deer,a coyote walked onto a fire trail.I put the scope on it to see if it was a dog or not.I turned it to 10 power, seeing it was a yote I turned it back down and took a shot. well he hit the dirt.
we measured it to 440 yards,80 grain PSP winchester bullet in my Rem. mohawk 243 carbine.
I say it was luck, although I took another at 320 yards measured.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

RE: YOUR LONGEST 1 SHOT KILL

Well, I took to friends out to do some calling one time, they both carried thier bows, I carried my rifle. The plan was to call a coyote into bow range for them, BUT, if and when the coyote was leaving the set up, wether or not they got a shot, I would take the shot. SO, we were just getting set up, when one of them spots Mr. coyote across the big raven from us. And, of course Mr. coyote had already seen us I beleive, 'cause I tried to call it, but it didn't show any interest in coming our way, as a matter of fact, the more I called, the further it was getting from us, SO, they told me to try to get it. So, I did a couple barks to get it to stop again, and with my rifle on the bi-pod, 22-250 shooting 50 gr. PSP, I let fly. And to my surprise, and thiers, it hit the ground. We estimated at around 350 yrds. We didn't have any ranging equipment with us, and no way to step it off across the raven.

I shot a few crows at 350 yds. a few winters ago. The yardage was measured with a Bushnell rangefinder. I had placed frozen meat scraps out to bring them in. The gun was a Ruger VT model with Leupold 6.5x20 scope and Harris bipod in .22-250 caliber.

RE: YOUR LONGEST 1 SHOT KILL

my longest shot was on a woodchuck.sat up top of a high hill looking down over a cut corn feild split by a hedge row and a winter wheat feild.on the other side of the corn feild i noticed some movment.laying from the prone position off a by-pod,aiming down hill i scoped the movment,it was a woodchuck.at that moment i guesstamated the shot to be 450 + yards.i squeezed off the trigger and to my amazement the hand loaded 80 p.s.p.out of my 243 found its mark.without even going down to take a look see,i went back to the truck and got the range finder that i should of had in the first place,i forgot it.i ranged it at 490 yards.then i was pissed,if i had the range finder to begin with i would have move back that 10 or so yards then maybe i would have gotten that ever so elusive 500 + yard one shot kill.

Longest on deer was .30-06 150gr Winchester Supreme Balistic Silvertip 383yrds from my Ruger Standard Mark II M-77, little bit of smithy work and a bipod.

Longest on a yote was with the same gun and load at 461yrds.

The one I'm most proud of was a dollar bill-425yrds got in the oval washington's face is in on my first shot.

I love that rifle!!!

All three of these combine the hunter's best friends: good equipment, luck and stupidity. Why else would we try long shots?

#1 whitetail off fencepost hilltop to hilltop - 478 yards with 7mm RemMag. Grossly underestimated range to be 375-400 but still got him. Six years later someone got a range finder and we measured it. Wish I had one then, cause I woulda done some REAL bragging.

#2 groundhog off sandbags on hood of truck - 529 yards with Tikka .25/06. Tried several shots over 2 summers to get that fat little pasture puppy. Laser rangefinder let me know he was 75 yards farther than I thought.

#3 whitetail deer out of permanent treestand (more like a treehouse) - 406 yards with same 7mm mag. A heated discussion and minor fist fight erupted over this one. I think I actually shot over the buck I wanted a hit a doe behind him, but my buddies were watching and thought she was in front of him. Like it mattered; I "missed" and we ate tenderoin and rib stew for dinner.

I would have to say when I was hunting greenheads, I pinged one down at app. 70 yards. In my estimation total luck. Or someone else shot it exactly when I did. I saw the thing fall but....nope never found it

Whitetail doe at 467 paces with a 7mm Mag. I was using a mail box as a rest across a cut corn field. I hit it on the second shot. I had guessed it at about 450 yards and had been shooting the ram at a local gun club pretty consistantly all summer. Perfect hit, dropped in her tracks. My second longest shot was 326 paces on a snowshoe rabbit. It was with a Encore 223 with 6-20x44 scope and a 52gr HP. First shot hit it on the top of th head just at the base of the ears. I didn' t tell my buddies but I had been aiming for a shoulder hit on it. I have done a lot of really long range target practice but these are my two farthest shots on game.

My longest shot pales in comparison to the rest of yours. I' ve only been hunting one year though. It was a squirrel at 63 yards. It was with open sights (scope was in the mail). [:-]

These one shot kill brags!! disturbe me, if you must prove youre shoting skill why not prove it on paper. Because paper doesnt run away and die an agonizing death. Enjoy the hunt and just remember that getting close is the funest part. Dont get me wrong I know i can make a 200 yrd shot with my 30 06 but consider it pushing it and hunt my hardest to avoid it.;)

Hunt or be Hunted!!!

RE: YOUR LONGEST 1 SHOT KILL

My longest one shot kill was a feral dog running a fawn down while I was chuck hunting, it was on a dead run about 200 yards. I was shooting a .22 hornet. My longest one shot kill with a shotgun slug was a spine shot on a wounded running whitetail at about 80 yards, the best part was the slug shot a 1 1/2 inch thick tree limb clean off on its way to the deer. I did this with an old bolt action 12 gauge jc higgins with an ace of spades glued on as a rear site, ugly but effective! My longest one shot kill with birdshot was on a crow at 45- 50 yards 2 3/4 inch #4 20 gauge. My all-time best shot was the first shot I ever took with any gun. My cousin handed me a daisy red rider, showed me how to use it and told me to shoot at something. About that time a bumblebee landed on a limb about 15 feet away I took aim and ..you guessed it knocked dead off the limb. He asked what I was shooting at and I told him but he didn' t believe me until I walked over and picked it up and he' s been trying to out do me ever since! That was my introduction to shooting.

I would like to add that I' ve always said and I' ve learned by experience that what you shoot isn' t nearly as important as how you shoot it and practice is the key to consistently good shooting no matter what you have to shoot!

Longest shot on a deer was this past fall, 260yds with 308 model99.

Longest shot on a groundhog was 325 yards with 243 model99; hoping to improve that this summer, just bought a 22-250 model99 last weekend and am probably going to set up my 2nd 308 model99 just to shoot 224 sabots.

I was probably 9 or 10 years old, had a Crosman 766 pump action pellet gun. There was a flock of starlings on the other side of a valley, must have been 250-300 yards away. There were about 500 starlings in the flock, and they were leapfrogging and flying over each other as they were feeding. Anyway, I gave the gun 10 pumps, aimed about 50 feet above the flock, and fired. 499 of the starlings flew off, one stayed.

last fall....514yds on a coyote. me and my father were actually deer hunting. the action was pretty slow so when we saw a small pack of yotes i decided to see what i could do. i had just bought a .270 WSM and it did the number on that dog. my father ranged it and said when the bullet hit the dog did a complet flip!!!
