What Rifle?
I'm looking to buy a rifle for varmint hunting, .223 caliber. I've been searching the web for a good rifle, but I can't seem to findI good one. I have the specs I want below:
550$ or less. No AR's (no Bushmasters, Colt H-Bars, DPMS Panther Arms etc.) Bolt Action No Accutrigger Preferrably a Remington, Winchester, or Ruger |
RE: What Rifle?
do you plan on hunting with hounds or calling? Winchester model 70 is a good one for calling and anything with clip is good for hounds like CZ-USA try this www.budsgunshop.com

RE: What Rifle?
I have heard a lot of good things about the Tikka, but I do not own one. I am considering buying a Varmint model in 223 Remington for a truck gun. An Encore is 223 would also be a great choice. I do not think you can buy a varmint model in your price range from Reminton, Ruger, or Winchester.Even the Savage Varmint model's costthat much(or close). Tom.

the rem700 sps is a great gun I have one in 243cal it is accurate enough for varmints and only cost $429 at a local gunshop. You can find out how to do a good trigger job on google, just punch in remington model700 trigger job,the website is quarterbore.com and a bunch of other letters and stuff I cant remember, just follow the directions it's pretty simple, and safe MY guns trigger breaks at around 22oz now instead of 6lbs+ when it was new.Hope this helps. My groups are now MOA instead of one and a half inches or more.

I am looking for a varmit rifle also. I am probably going to get a REM 700 .243 Stainless Barrel. One thing to consider when looking at the rifles is weight. I told a friend of mine I was looking at the REM VLS etc...and then realized (as he pointed out) that it was like 9 lbs. Something to consider if you plan on doing some hiking. My buddy did pick up a nice gun at Wal-Mart. He bought a REM 700 .243 for $300 and replaced the stock with a top of the line for another $250. If you were to buy this gun from the factory it would be about $900....just an idea....
