Default What Rifle?

I'm looking to buy a rifle for varmint hunting, .223 caliber. I've been searching the web for a good rifle, but I can't seem to findI good one. I have the specs I want below:

550$ or less.
No AR's (no Bushmasters, Colt H-Bars, DPMS Panther Arms etc.)
Bolt Action
No Accutrigger
Preferrably a Remington, Winchester, or Ruger

do you plan on hunting with hounds or calling? Winchester model 70 is a good one for calling and anything with clip is good for hounds like CZ-USA try this www.budsgunshop.com

I have heard a lot of good things about the Tikka, but I do not own one. I am considering buying a Varmint model in 223 Remington for a truck gun. An Encore is 223 would also be a great choice. I do not think you can buy a varmint model in your price range from Reminton, Ruger, or Winchester.Even the Savage Varmint model's costthat much(or close). Tom.

Remington SPS
How does this rifle differ from the regular 700 Remington varmint rifle?? The Remington I just bought was $900. It was the LH 700 VSF model. Tom.

the rem700 sps is a great gun I have one in 243cal it is accurate enough for varmints and only cost $429 at a local gunshop. You can find out how to do a good trigger job on google, just punch in remington model700 trigger job,the website is quarterbore.com and a bunch of other letters and stuff I cant remember, just follow the directions it's pretty simple, and safe MY guns trigger breaks at around 22oz now instead of 6lbs+ when it was new.Hope this helps. My groups are now MOA instead of one and a half inches or more.

Well, first of all, the SPS is only around $450-500.00. Your 700 is a little more pricey andis made for varmint and predator hunting, is made of better quality materials and is probably more accurate than the SPS. Your 700, if I'm not mistaken, has a stainless steel fluted barrel and a custom stock. The 700 SPS was made for someone on a lower budget. It still has great accuracy, and has a wider range of calibers, and the finish on the barrel is made out of some kind of steel carbon material, not stainless. I was seriously considering getting the SPS in 7mm-08, until I my dad gave me his 700 CDL.

I am looking for a varmit rifle also. I am probably going to get a REM 700 .243 Stainless Barrel. One thing to consider when looking at the rifles is weight. I told a friend of mine I was looking at the REM VLS etc...and then realized (as he pointed out) that it was like 9 lbs. Something to consider if you plan on doing some hiking. My buddy did pick up a nice gun at Wal-Mart. He bought a REM 700 .243 for $300 and replaced the stock with a top of the line for another $250. If you were to buy this gun from the factory it would be about $900....just an idea....
