Flute that Big Bad Boy.Cuts down on weight and some say make it rigid. But the main reason,Fins caused by fluting do help dissipate heat because of more surface area to cool. Just like fins on applifiers or other electrical equip. that heats up and needs to cool.

True, fluting does help just like he said. But if you don't flute it take care of it. By the way fluting only helps to an extent (I've got a friend that thought otherwise and now he's having to replace that $545 barrel - he's got me doing the work for him and this time he's trying out a brand new (meaning not used) helinical fluted chromemoly barrel to see if there is a noticeable difference between the two types of fluting and performance.
