.204 Ruger

Anyone have any experiance with the 204 at longrange with yotes I'm getting about 900 ft/lbs of energy at 500 yards. Do you think that enough.

Wow 900ft/lbs at 500 yds.. My factory .204 remington 40 grains are only in the neighborhood of 325ft/lbs at 500yds, Heck my 22-250 with a 50 grain bullet isnt doing anything close to that, You must be handloading some pretty hot stuff, If not what brand of off the shelf ammo are you shooting? I too would LOVE 900ft/lbs of energy at 500yds. out of my 204. or even my 22-250 for that matter.

I think you need to push the buttons on that calculator one more time. I think you've got an error in your figures. NO way to get 900 ft/lbs. at 500 yards with the .204, no matter the load of bullet.

On edit, I went to Hornday's web sight and used thier little energy calculator and found that a 40 gr. bullet at 4000fps only has 344 ft/lbs of energy at 500 yards. Even a 45 gr. bullet at 4000fps only had 387 ft/lbs at 500 yards. So for giggles, I kept punchin' numbers until I found a bullet that would carry 901 ft/lbs at 500 yards and it was a bullet that weighed 105 grains with a muzzle velocity of 4000fps. Don't think the .204 can do that!

Regardless of all the ballistics,i am sure you probably made a mistake with your figures, but anyhow i shot a big male last year at 354 yards dropped him dead in his tracks. The 204 is one great caliber for coyotes!!!!!
