Default Going To Start

Hey Guys,

With Some Help From hihopehunter i am going to start traping around my house now! I have 2 very old rusted up traps witch i tryed to set but cant even hold the spring long enough to set it. Is this typical for old traps??? They Look LIke Some body traps of some sort. anyways i am going to hopefull but a few traps soon and some stuff to start what kind of traps should i try to buy all i want is something to trap Racoons and opossoms. hihopehunter said hes been having luck with sardines so i will try them when i start. I will proboly be using the coons as coyote bait after i skin them out. Basicaly here are my questions:

1 What traps should i buy? Brand? Size?
2 What Gear Do I need to start?

Thanks Guys!

For bait, it is usually a lot cheaper to buy 16 ounce cans of jack mackeral than the small cans of sardines. But then again, the last 5 or 6 coons that I caught I was using dried dog food for bait. You can get 50 pounds of that for the price of a couple cans of mackeral or sardines.

For water sets for coons, I like #11 double springs or #1 coil springs. If I was gonna do coon sets on land with the chance of catching a fox, I would go with a 1.5 coil spring. It is expensive to buy them new though.

for a land set you should just use either a cage trap or #1 coil springs with sardines or dog food but you got to check the traps early in the morning or they will chew off the caught foot.

p.s. if you have the chance to catch a fox as said before get #1.5 coil springs

Hey I think you should find a trapper to hang out with on the trapline or look into a course on trapping to see if this is for you.
