RE: A good yote gun?
I just bought a new H and R Handi rifle in .223. I got a synthetic stock, heavy bull barrel, and a Simmons scope for about $295. They also make these in just about any yote killing caliber that a guy could want. In my opinion they one of the best guns for the money.

what i have been told, it depends on how much your limit is, Distance you will be shooting ect. were im hunting im not taking a shot over 100 yards! im useing a .22 Magnum! SHOT PLACEMENT is the most important thing if outlaws can kill deer with a .22 LR you can kill a coyote with one I was looking at a .17 HMR but i stuck with a 22 mag. Hope This Helps!

I have never heard of Stevens is it a good gun. I will check it out. I am not limited on distance. I think I might be leaning towards a .243 so I can use it on deerand hogs if I ever go on an out of state hunt.

For the money the Stevens was an excellent investment for me. I have one in .223, I bought it new for $265. Besides the short action that the 243 comes in they also make a long action in 25-06, 270, 30-06, 7mm rem mag, and 300 win mag.
There pretty accurate guns and made by savage so you know there not cheap in quality.

I bought my son a Stevens .22-250 for $265.00 and it shoots great I would go with a bolt action over a single shot rifle for coyote hunting. My only complaint with the Stevens is the trigger pull which is a bit hard but the H&R and Rossi trigger pulls are just as bad for the money you can't go wrong with a Stevens.

I bought a Stevens model 200 in .243 at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Lafayette, IN for $259 last spring. Your name makes it sound like you're from Indiana, so if you ever get to Lafayette maybe stop in. They're $289 now, but still a good deal. Mine shoots 4 different factory loads into less than and inch at 100 yards. And like you said, if I ever left Indiana, I'd have a nice deer rifle. Oh yeah, you can pick up a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on ebay for $125 on ebay. Put that scope on the Stevens, and you've got a nice shooting rifle with a decent scope forjust over$400.
"What's a short action?", you ask. Well, they make the reciever and bolt assemblies in two different lengths. One for shorter cartridges like the .223 and.308 family, and one for longer cartridges like the 30-06 family and magnums. On the Stevens, you'll have a hard time mounting a scope on the long action due to the distance between the rings, so I'd vote for picking a short action cartridge.

Stevens rifles are a savage rifle without the accutrigger and it has a less expensive stock, but they are great guns. The h&r ultra rifles are also darn good rifles for the money.Either way i would definetly go with a 204 caliber they are awesome!!!!
