RE: Going rabbit hunting for the first time
I have used my Mossberg 500 20ga afew times;) and have found that a improvedchoke and 7 1/2 shot work best for me....But Ilike my 22lr single six the best.... |
RE: Going rabbit hunting for the first time
Wow...suprised at some of the comments. Not sure why hi brass... My best success with a 20 or 12 gauge is low brass 6's or 7 1/2's. Modified choke and even improved works great...I've taken a few hundred bunnies in the last 20 years and it only takes a handful of bb's to stop them. Stay in front of them...you do not want to waste those hind quarters....good luck and have fun...kick those brush piles..and stay in that yellow grass...they love it there...they also like the sun so watch where the sun is hitting on those ridge lines or hay fields...thats where they will be!

I agree w/ high brass #4s - #6s. If you go above that, you've got a TON of holes in them bunnies. I use a modified choke.

Thanks for the replies. I got 2 rabbits today!
I have to say, rabbit hunting is much more fun than deer hunting, and watching the dogs so their thing was a real joy for a long time beagle lover. |
