.22lr

do you guys think a 22lr will kill coyotes or smaller, like prairie dogs like at 100-150yards. i will be using a remington 597 in 22lr untill i get a new one?

This again?

How many times do we have to answer this question?

It is not an ethical choice to use a .22LR. They are tough critters and you need to use a better suited cartridge.

well,i hear on hear of people kiling them with a 17hmr,isnt that a smaller bullet.and with 22mags,theres ammo where the 22lr will give the gun 22mag performance.

Yes, but the 17 is a much faster bullet. And for smaller game at longer distances (100-150 yards) the 17 is not a bad choice. I have killed A yote at 100 with my 17 but it is much better to use a larger bullet.

As for 22lr ammo that shoots as good as a 22 mag, no there is not a cartridge that compares. Now a 22lr CCI Stinger shoots faster and better (IMO) than a Remington 22lr that comes in a box of 500. But, it still does not shoot as fast or accurate as a 22 mag.

My suggestion, buy a 22-250, .223, .243 or just use your deer rifle for yotes and groundhogs.

Ah. the age old question. Can it be done? Yes it can be done. I've seen it done with a 22 but it took 7 shots to finish the darn thing off. Should it be done? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I don't recommend shooting any coyote with less than a 22 mag.

RE: .22lr

DO NOT USE A 22 LR FOR YOTES. You will wound way more yotes than you would kill. In fact you probobly would never kill a yote unless you unload about 5-10 shots into it. And then you still would only have bout a 10-20% chance of killing one. Not even with a 22 mag. Use something like a 223, 204, or a 17 rem. Thats what i use cause i'm a trrapper and tanner. now if ur trapping use a 17 mach 2, 22 lr, 17 hmr, or a 17 athena and dont even try to look that up because you wont find it. Im one of the only ones if not the only one who really really really knows about that caliber. I have those special made and its not cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
