Opposum acting Strangely

On two separate occasions in the past 3-4 months I have driven up to two different opposums early in the morning around first light. Both were walking in circles with their heads turned. That was the strangest thing I've seen. I mean you can literally walk right up to em and they still just walk in a circle with that head looking up and turned to the side. Anybody else ever seen this? Is this normal opposum behavior. Were they sick? Should I have killed'em? Gosh those things are ugly:D

They definitely sound sick,'possums can carry rabies, distemper and a couple of other diseases. As far as just shooting them,I would say don't do it,I don't know your game laws, should have called C/O,wildlife biologist,or animal control. They would have wanted to know about the sick animals,so they could track any disease outbreaks.

Its pretty common to think they can get rabies or distemper.Truth is that these are viruses, and viruses need minimum temps. grinners are a few degrees short of the minimum. It does sound like distemper, but may be acting that way from a brain injury.
