coyote help!?
We have been hearing coyotes at night around the area I hunt. What would be the best way to and stratagy for setting up on them and trying to shoot them? I am going to need lots of detail seeing as how I have no clue what to do.
Thanks! |
RE: coyote help!?
Keep your eyes open during your deer season. The increased pressure during the firearms seasons usually gets them moving.

RE: coyote help!?
The dumn stuff first . . . check local regs. There might be a season or some kind of limitation on them where you live. See of you can bait, or use electronic calls. These would be helpful.
Consider the additionalshooting in the areatrying to eliminate them (or at least reduce or scare off) and what impact that may have on the desired quarry. Is it really worth it? Scout the area you suspect them to be at 1st and last light. Put in dead animal/fish for bait (?). Find a path to enter the area that does not intersect where they may travel. Set up in some kind of ground blind where you have a wide view of an area. A good call is a wounded rabbit or even a coyote call. The bait should keep them interested in an area and help centralize their location. THEN WORK THOSE CALLS! Get comfortable, and use some kind of bipod, shooting stickor rest. Choose a comfortable caliber and practice long shots. 22-250, .223, 220 swift are all popular guns. What are you going to do with the carcuses? Some areas still offer some kind of reward for the ears. Good hides are still in demand by the fur trading industry (coat collers and such). Get comfortable and wait. Give a spot an hour or so and if activity is slow, move. So find more than one location and a path in & out. Good stating off point anyway. Check with local gun clubs/ associations, maybe there's yote hunters willing to share their loxcal expertice with you. |
