If you were to buy a new coyote only gun what caliber would it be and what gun would it be? And why. I know I know... Starting another one here but I am just interested to hear opinions.

I'd go with the 243. It has the flat trajectory to make long shots, and it can handle slightly heavier bullets, which translates to better performance in the wind and more knock down power (compared to the popular 223 and 22-250).

Also, ammo is still affordable and recoil is mild.

Other rounds that would fit the bill IMO: 25-06, 6mm Rem, 257 Roberts, 220 Swift, 223, 22-250, 204. The 25-06 and 257 might be a little much if you're trying to save pelts.

Depends on several things. Mainly what type of terrain you are hunting, and what you plan to do with the hides.

For most people and most places, a .223 would be hard to beat. It shoots flat, knocks them down fine, and doesn't do a lot of damage to the hides with the right bullet selection. Same goes for a .222. And they both shoot plenty far and plenty flat for called coyotes. The advantage a .223 has is ammo selection.

This question has been argued over many a campfire.if you are going to buy a gun just for hunting yotes the 223 is hard to beat. easy to find shells,easy to reload,puts yotes down quick,wont cause alot of fur damage,its just a great cal for yotes. I have taken over400 yotes with the 223 most of them were called in so most shots were 75 to150 yards some spot and stalk shots were 200 plus. Here is my pet load for the 223 26.5 grains of W748 powder and a speer 50 grain tnt shoots great and does not blow giant holes in yotes. if you are not going to save the furs go with the 55gr bullets. I have shot the 40gr bullets and the yotes run a ways before they go down sometimes when they are hit and this may cause you to loose some so i would stay away from them as far as yotes go. As far as guns go i like remington and T/C most custom gun makers use remington actions look up 10 custom gun makers and i bet 80% of them are using rem actions. T/C makes a great gun to the encore and contender shoot great right out of the box!the nice thing about the contender is its light weight and how short they are.I have one with a thumb hole stock and a 22 inch barrel it iseasy to carry from stand to stand and the factory barrelshoots sub MOA groups easy at 100 yards using the load i gave you.Dont let the single shot scare you i pulled two doubles and one trip last year with it, I am at work now but when i get home if i can figure out how to i will post a picture for you not a computer guy

the best bet would be a .577 trex, you cant go wrong, heck itll take anything from squirrels to those pesky velociraptors, lol

Hereabouts, a .223. Out west, where wind & distance is worse, I would go 6mm Remington.

I really like my Ruger M77MKII target.220 swift.That is the cartridge that everyone compares there cartridge to.(.22 calibur that is) It has been around for a long time and the old tale of it being a barrel burner no longer applies with modern steel.It is ne worse then the 22-250 or the .223wssm.

That Swift will relax them as far away as you can hit them! Same goes for the 22-250.If you want a specific coyote gun in semi-settled areas I'd go .223 for it's 400yard range and quiet report. Open country and no noise considerations .22-250!All double as deer guns depending on your State laws.Been there done that.A step up [more pelt damage]and more suitable for deer are the various .257's and 6mm's.243 etc..........pick your poison.................Harold
