RE: New coyote gun

I have just started huntin' yotes and I have a special gun for them -- where I am at it is not uncommon to see 3 to 5 of them at one sitting so I have acquired a bushmaster m4 orc with a 6x24x50 scope because the shots are usually 75-150 yds on multiple targets. using a 55 gr.psp doesn't do to bad a job on the pelts that I have noticed compared to a .243. If the shots aren't going to be very far ( 50 yds or less) I would go with a Marlin .22 mag. or similar.

lugging around a heavy barrel AR or my bull barreled savage is a bit of chore, if I could do it over I think I would go with something light weight something in a mountain rifle configuration in .223 Im looking at a remington model 7 or 799

RE: New coyote gun

I bought an H&R Handi-Rifle in 204 Ruger and mounted a Bushnell 6-24X50 on it. The 204 is one of the flattest shooting rounds in production, plus with a 40gr Hornaday V-max there is virtually zero damage to the pelt. The H&R is only a single shot, but here in NM if my first yote is 100 yards or so, I still have time to get off another shot before it’s partner is out of my effective range (350 yards or so). The only problem I've seen with the 204 is the price of ammo. It is easily twice the cost of quality 223. I am going to start reloading soon, because this gun is entirely too much fun to shoot. If you would like to see a pic of it PM me with your email address, and I'll send a couple your way.

Come on guys, i'm not sensing any love for the .22-250. My weapon of choice is a remington 700 in a .22-250 caliber. Just a great gun all around. But I paid for it in comparison to a savage, or a single shot NEF.

I'll throw one at ya!, I use a .308 Encore, I don't save the pelts I just want them deceased. I can use my .308 for everything on the North American Cont. I use one shot which is how the gun is intended to be used. This summer to keep up practice I was shooting crows at 330yrds with my gun topped with a Nikon 5.5-16.5X44 BDC reteicle. Sure there's calibers that are better suited for every game in the world but becoming familiar with your gun and developing a relationship with it is kinda like taking your dog out hunting.

Either a 223, 204, 17 rem., 220 swift, or a 17 ath. Out of all those i would stick with the .223 aclly imp. Its a gun that you can hunt about anything with. yotes (lowpeltdamagr), fox (lpd), cats (lpd), deer with heavier grain bullets, squirrels in the head or neck, rabbits head or neck, p-dogs, ground hogs, etc. just about anything. You can do that with a 220 swift too but i still wouldnt pick it if i had the choice of a 223 aclly imp.
