coyotes
we have a bait pile for coyotes of some old road kills and such! The coyotes are comeing in we have seen there tracks in the snow, and they are eating alot of the meat. we have went up in the stand a few times and tryed to get one in the middle of night and threw day we have tryed the howling and rabbit distress on our phantom game call. What do u guys think would be the best way to get one of these coyotes call wise, and time wise?when do coyotes usally move the most? they are howling all day and night around here so i wouldn't know when they are at peak movement.Any help would be great.

RE: coyotes
hunting coyotes over bait can be diffacult.as they approch the bait there looking, smelling and listening real hard for anything out of place.most times a hunter in the area will be spoted before he knows the coyotes are there.its also hard to tell when they will hit the bait.a good way to tag call shy, educated coyotes is with a howler.this hold especially true during the mating season(febuary-march)but a howler can be effective all year long if used correctly.call shy coyotes are less likly to responed to just distress sounds, throw in a howl or two with barks and they think an intruder has entered there territory stealing there food.coyotes are most active at night but in less populated more remote areas they will roam during daylight hours but will be most responsive to calling during the night.but then again hunting them at night can be unproductive becouse they can get down wind of you with out you being able to see them.the exception to this would be in an area where you can see for many hundreds of yards in a 360 degree pattern.here in the east thats impossible to do.hunting coyotes can be tough but the more you do it,the more you will refine your techniques and the better you will get at it.
