I've shot numerous sqirrels and have yet to find one with botfly larvae in them. As I understand, they only eat dead & rotting flesh. The larvae you're refering to, I've seen but only in rabbits. Maybe it's just me. And yes, I eat squirrel anytime I can get them.

I guess it depends on how hungry you are. 2-3 should do it per person...

Yeah. 2 or 3 and you can make a great stew for 2 or fry it up and serve with gravy and biscuits for 1. Mmm-BOY!

When im hunting in the woods with my bow, I usually kill one Squirrel, then make a fire and cook it and eat it. Then I walk around and make weapons for an hour or so, then go hunting for eitheir a Rabbit or another Squirrel, depending on what time it is. I do this so I eat, burn calories, get hungry, hunt, eat------and the cycle goes repetes. Sometimes I fill it in with Rasberries and BlackBerries I pluck near the creek, there always not ripe so they are very sour.

Botflies dont eat flesh..they live under the skin of mammals. they pupate there, and do not use the animal for anything but a warm safe place to develop.
they will not hurt the meat or humans.

if you live in the southwestern states or mexico, there is a different kind of botfly down there that incubates in humans... super gross Google it and see for yourself!

I shot 3 this morning and skinned them out... One had little 1/4 larva under the skin... Sorta resembled maggot, but flatter... Anyhow there on the stove as I type:D
