RE: How long to call?
I very every time I set up, but I probably only blow on my call for around 5 upto 15 seconds, then I may sit quiet for any where from 45 sec. upto two minutes. And if using a howler, I may sit quiet from 5 to 10 minutes, leaning toward the 10 minute mark if a coyote or two howls back. I like open country, the more yucca the better, also. As soon as the snow is on, get out to do some calling and scouting. Find where the rabbit tracks are most abundant, and you will also find where the coyote tracks are most abundant. Just because the area looks good to us, doesn't mean there are coyotes there. If they have found an easier meal a mile or two away, like possibly a dead cow or two, they will all be in that general area until that free meal is gone. Stick with it, it can be frustrating at times, but the more you do it, the more you will have success at it. Good Luck!!
