RE: 17 hmr for coyotes
ORIGINAL: rtb5390 a .17hmr is to small, i would go with a .204. A couple weeks ago i shot a coyote at 267 yards and it dropped in its tracks. I would say if your looking for a good coyote gun then the .204 would be a wise choice. |
RE: 17 hmr for coyotes
ORIGINAL: longrifle1000 I have taken a few with my .17hmr and it worked very well. I use the 20gr gamepoint loads and kepps the shots under 125 yards. The parks I hunt in Illinois are rimfire only, so I have to obey the rules set forth. I have never lost one yote, and never had to track one more than 30 yards. All of them were shot right behind the shoulder. But I will say this, none of them had their winter fur yet. That might make a difference. If fur makes a difference.... you aren't using enough gun. ORIGINAL: XxFirmanxX Thankx guys I did switch to 20grain hornedys I have shot three yotes with 17 grain but at about 50 yards I have chicken and the yotes love them this time of the year sence tuesday I have shot four yotes the longest was about 90 yards I am working on getting a rangfinder to mark my land I am also in a rimfire only township thanks again Shooting coyotes is one thing. Killing them ethically is another. Get a coyote rifle. And the .204 is at the bottom of the chart for coyote worthy rounds in my opinion. It'll kill them, but there will be a lot of spinners and a few bloodtrails. |
