.243 WSSM for coyotes and deer
 

Thinking of buying a new gun pretty soon:D. I was thinking of a .223 but i wanted something i could use year round. I came across the .243 WSSMin a magazine and it said it shot 4000 fps at the muzzle and if it was zeroed in at 100 it would only drop 4" at 300yds. can't remember the bullet weight. I figured i could use a heavier bullet for deer and a lighter bullet for yotes. Just lookin to see what some of my fellow hunters might think about it.:)

I haven't caught the wssm bug. the availability of .243 wssm ammo. is lacking for one, and then you can bet that it won't shoot both the very light varmit bullets and the heavier big game bullets equally well. It may shoot one or the other very well, but probably not both.
The old .243 win. has the ability to do about the same, and the store bought ammo. is very available in both light varmit configuration and heavier big game ammo.
The wssm. can only hold 4 shells, 3 in the mag. and one in the chamber. It obviously has a shorter stroke in the action, and can spit the bullets a few fps faster, but dead is dead and the .243 makes deer sized critters and smaller critters, dead!
But, if a man can afford to put another horse in the stable and can afford to feed it, then by all means, buy it.

It will shoot the 55 grain bullet at that speed. I had that bug for a while, but I pretty much decided that when i get a coyote rifle, I will get a 22-250.

both of my cousins shoot them. they seem to like the .243 wssm. i use a regular .243 and shoot yotes and deer both with a 100 grain bullet

A friend at work has a .243 wsm and he is quite happy with it. He has shot both with it and hasnt had a problem. But like howler said they are expensive to shoot. I have a 300 wsm and it cost around $35-45 bucks a box.

well, just a plain .243 will take down deer and yotes, but if you want it in WSSM, thats just more accuracy and powet to ya!
