Default What's a good .22 for 7 year old?

I posted this a while back but can't find the thread with the search option. My son is a little tall for his age, and shouldered a Marlin 925 at BassPro. It fit him pretty good, it was on thelong side, but not too long, and he'll grow into it. It is a 7 round clip bolt action, which I figure is a perfect combination of him not being able to squeeze off a bunch of rounds at one time (i.e. aim good), but also not having to load each bullet individually.

The problem is it is a pretty heavy gun. I saw a composite they had in about the same size (can't remember the make or model), but it cost about $400, more than twice the price. I'm thinking about getting this Marlin 925 for him unless one of you comes up with a good suggestion on a lighter gun, preferably a bolt action clip.

Thanks!

Can't go wrong with a cooey. They are bolt action but have a tubular magazine though.

by the time i was 7 I was shooting a 30-30 and a mini-14 I was a pretty stout kid at 7 i was probably 5 foot and 90 lbs, but when I was 6 my dad started me out with a ruger 10-22 which I still have along with another 10-22 that I bought when I turned 18. cant go wrong with a ruger 10-22 at 7 it would be a good starter gun and I guarentee he will still be shootin it even when he turns 27.

CZ Scout or Savage Cub. I think the Cub is single shot. My 8 yoa functions (removes and load mag/ cycles bolt) my CZ 452 with no problem, just too big, Of course. Both have great reviews and are the best among youth sized .22's. I'm buying the CZ for mine. I think it has 12in lop, 4lbs,16in barrel. The CUB is just a little lighter.

I hate to see new shooters with semi-automatics. More danger there than is really needed. Stick with a single-shot.

10/22 it is short gun not to heavy and is easy to point and aim. and the rotary style clip is more convienient then a tubular magazine
