Blonde Squirrel (pic finally)
Finally I was able to get a picture of the blonde squirrel that hangs around the house. I was torn back in late small game season to shoot this squirrel or not and mount it. I enjoy watching for it as much as I would looking at the mount. I know it won't be around forever but I'm hoping it's around til this fall season and then I'll attemp to take it with my bow. I believe it to be a female as she's smaller than the others. I first saw her around Christmas.

RE: Blonde Squirrel (pic finally)
thats cool
we have an all black squirrel running around up the road from me. Both of them together would make a great mount. |
RE: Blonde Squirrel (pic finally)
We also have a few black squirrels around the farm. I did a little research on it and found out they're a variation of the grey squirrel. Cool pics!

I grew up in Wis, and only have seen one white squirrel in the wild and it was an albino. I know there in Wis, it is illegal to shoot them. Check your local game laws before harvesting them. :)

RE: Blonde Squirrel (pic finally)
in response to the albino vs blonde question, this appears to be a blonde squirrel rather than a true albino because the eyes dont appear to be pink, but i could be wrong. the debate about whether we as hunters should be able to harvest albinos is one that could go on forever, some say they are rare and unique, and therefore should be protected, others say they are an inferior specimen genetically and should be removed from the gene pool. whatever your opinion, these are some great pics, thanks for sharing.

I've never seen a squirrel like that before...looks pretty cool. As for people seeing only a few Black squirrels around, up here (SOUTHERN ONTARIO) most of the squirrels around are black, with the Grey colouring being few and far between. They also are huge in towns where the people feed them all year and cry if they get hit by a car...if they only knew what they were missing by feeding them and then not eating them. i have a big spot in my guts reserved for those bad boys!
